MY FAIR CONCUBINE BY JEANNIE LIN

Although this is the third book in the series by Jeannie lin, it was the first one I had read. I must say I wasn't disappointed. I have been interested for quite sometime about the emperors of China and there old ways. This book gave you that in spades and more. The hero Fei Long lets his sister escape an arranged marriage something extremely unusual as it dishonors the families involved. A young  tea girl, Yan Ling, is asked and agrees to be an imposter and pretend to be his sister.

Teaching her everything she needs to know in order to pretend to be a princess. At times you wonder if a happy ending will come and you are not disappointed. My only regret is that I hadn't read the other books first. Not that it posed a problem as each book can be read as a stand alone. 4 OUT OF 5

THE SILENT TOUCH OF SHADOWS BY CHRISTINA COURTENAY

'The Silent Touch of Shadows' by Christina Courtenay. Christina uses time lapses within in the book  to create a suspenseful romance.

Genealogist Mellisa is invited to stay with an unknown Aunt at her estate following Mellisa's divorce. Strange things start happening in her dreams and Visions being seduced by ghostly haunting's and although Mellisa has fallen for the local vet she can not pursue a relationship until she has discovered what rodger wants and having the love of his life Sibell trying to take over her body.

There are twists and turns around every corner of this book and it made a really enjoyable read. It is the first of Christina Courtenay books I have read and will definitely be reading her others if this one is anything to go by.

DARKNESS SEDUCED BY STEPHANIE ROWE

This is the second book in the Order of the Blade series by Stephanie Rowe. Darkness Seduced   is a fast paced novel with many twists and turns, making it another real page turner. Lily Davenport is the heroine of this book, unfortunately for her her mate is non other than a Calydon warrior. She is an expert on everything to do with the Calydon Warriors and so we feel a tad sorry for her but only for a few minutes that her happily ever after is with a clan she hates.

Lily is a strong heroine although she has been very much a victim and now is determined to put all that behind her. Gideon is finding it hard to put his past mistakes behind him.

Lily takes Gideon on a path of self discovery as she herself discovers the burning passion she holds for  him, their bonding ritual is hot enough to burn the pages of the book.

Looking forward to the third book in the trilogy.

TO TURN FULL CIRCLE BY LINDA MITCHELMORE

To Turn Full Circle is the first book in a trilogy by debut author Linda Mitchelmore.  Based in 1900’s Devon our heroine Emma Le Geoff life takes a turn for the worse when she loses both her mother and brother. Her father had died sometime previous to the story. Her mother’s landlord makes her homeless and she now has to make her own way in the world.  Not easy for a young girl of sixteen when the rumour mongers have got you in their sights.
Linda has done her homework in regards to the historical facts of the time. She shows us the beautiful fishing village but does not burden with unnecessary details. What a great opening debut and I am eagerly awaiting the other books in this trilogy.
Emma’s friend Seth tries  to help but he is the landlords son enter stage left the new fisherman in town Mathew Chaunter who takes Emma under is wing but in doing so causes more complications for the young girl.

HER MAN ADVANTAGE BY JOANNE ROCK

Her man advantage centered around the ice hockey team 'Philadelphia phantoms' our heroine Jennifer reluctantly agrees to make a documentary about them. In order her boss Colin will allow her to make a documentary on cyber bullying a subject close to her heart. After her sister suffers bullying at school. Jennifer sees it as a means to an end and reluctantly agrees. Once on location she meets ex Finn biker bad boy Alex Rankin who is equally unhappy about the documentary. They try to keep their relationship away from the documentary after being filmed kissing. Jennifer is warned that her documentary will be buried if the footage does not appear in the finished product.

The leader of Axel's biker gang tries to blackmail him as he wants out of the gang, threatening not only his safety but Jennifer's also. After following Axel and capturing the blackmail on live feed Axel is free for good.

The story is well written and the sex scenes were just enough for me. I was concerned that not knowing anything about ice hockey would take me out of the story, but i needed have worried.

It was Chelsea's story although she is a secondary character which peeked my interest and I feel there is a story in itself.

THE PENNY BANGLE BY MARGARET JAMES

The Penny Bangle is so much more than a romance, it gives the reader a glimpse of the work of women during the second world war. After being sent from Birmingham by her grandmother Cassie joins the land girls.
I laughed on page one when Cassie our 19 year old heroine dropped her underwear on the station platform and when she got hit by a bull. Finding her self in several sticky situations you are always willing her to get out of anything she finds herself. Especially when she gets drunk on Champagne whilst visiting Rob and Steve's famous sister. Then believes she has made a fool of herself.

Her fiance Rob is missing during the war and we anxiously await his fate and feel everything that Cassie is feeling, her despair and worry.  I was concerned about her Grandmother being left in Birmingham but I did not have to worry as it all turned out and she was at her Great Granddaughter's christening.

Margaret James has produced a fast paced romance containing both sadness and laughter in equal measure. This is a must read book. I know I will be reading it again.
